IT Office Relocation, Glasgow

McKinlay Kidd have been a customer of Central Computer Support for 5 years including Ongoing Support and Hosted Email. So when it came to them moving premises from Baltic Chambers to the Hatrack Building due to expansion and success they knew they could count on us to make sure their IT systems worked in the new office just as they did in the old.

McKinlay Kidd tabled concerns about the move from an IT perspective but we were able to allay their fears and assure them that with enough planning: Everything would go smoothly!

At the earliest opportunity we got the keys to the new office (the same day the landlord handed over the keys!) so we could perform an in-depth site survey.

We needed to check:

  • The current office layout to see if it was fit for purpose.
  • Any Planned Construction.
  • State of Cabling Network.
  • Number of data ports as this was going to be different from what was needed at the previous premises.
  • Current Broadband Situation.

The purpose of the site survey is to check which additional elements are required to ensure the customer’s operations can work as they always have done in their old office. From the survey we were able to establish:

  • New data cabling was required.
  • The network and server hub needed to change locations.
  • More data points needed fitted to accommodate new desk locations.
  • Leased broadband line required for network demand.

What Did We Do?

At Central Computer Support we are able to provide a “one stop shop” for all our customers IT needs. This removes the hassle for our clients having to call multiple suppliers. We can take care of everything that is to do with their computer system.

This is why we were happy to undertake the full data cabling of the new office. We were able to work closely with McKinlay Kidd to see their desired table plans so we knew how many floor boxes to fit and also where to fit them. We work closely with an electrician so they were able to help with running the power to each box.

Once the cabling was laid we were able to terminate it at the new server cabinet. All of the testing was carried out and the customer was all set for moving in.

The moving day came and we were on hand to help get each user set up in the new office. We connected up each PC (13 desktops in total) and helped with the install of the new phones and printer.

The last thing to move was the server and router at the old office. We needed to take everything offline to move the hub to the new location.

Overall, their server was only down for 1 hour whilst we moved it and restarted it in the new office!

The Outcome

McKinlay Kidd knew there would be some downtime but they really appreciated the quick turnaround.

We arranged to be onsite the following day to make sure everyone was able to go about their working day and we could deal with any teething issues that may have arose. This gave the customer reassurance that if any problems did crop up then we would be on it right away.

After being in their office for a few months now McKinlay Kidd have really settled in. Central Computer Support were happy to play their small part in accommodating this. They have faster network speeds that no doubt increase their productivity and they have the potential to grow the team due to the way we built the new cable network. This will remove the need for any substantial work in the future. It will be a simple plug in and play exercise from here on out. We continue to provide great IT support to McKinlay Kidd and look forward to the next project.

“We have worked with David and his team over a number of years and in that time have presented them with a number of varied IT support challenges, large and small, which they have taken into their stride.

We appreciate their focus and commitment to this essential element of our business and would certainly recommend them to other SMEs.”
