Murphy Wealth are a Glasgow-based wealth management firm with more than 40 years’ experience in helping individuals and businesses achieve both their short term and long term financial goals.

Over the last 7 years, Central Computer Support have provided a range of services including Ongoing Support and Hosted Emails. A lot has changed for both companies in that time. However, our relationship has remained and Murphy Wealth have trusted Central Computer Support with their technical support for all of those years.

Office IT Relocation

The last year has seen some of the bigger projects we’ve worked on together. Here we will highlight how we helped Murphy Wealth relocate to a brand new office, allow for user hot desking and also migrate them to a new phone system.

Having looked after Murphy Wealth’s systems for a number of years we were well aware of their intentions to move to bigger premises to house their ever expanding team. Once they had found the right location for them we were able to carry out a site visit. This allowed us to get a good understanding of their new office layout and where they were looking to sit everyone.

The Office Network Plan

The office was split into three sections. One area for everyday working, a breakout area for meetings and a space for any seminars or bigger events. We drew up a network plan that highlighted where floor boxes would be best placed to run data and power cables to.

A suggestion was made to Murphy Wealth that it would be good to think about the future as well and any potential growth or rearrangements in the office. It would be easier to put more data points in than were required just now rather than adding more down the line. Murphy Wealth agreed and we arranged a date to do the data points.

Their cables were ran and we terminated the data points in the floor boxes and in the server room. There were 120 data ports in total! That’s quite a lot, but it means they have the freedom to rearrange the office if the time comes.

IT Hardware

Murphy Wealth were keen to get brand new PCs, laptops and network components so these were all able to be set up in the new office without having to disrupt operations in the old office. This made the move to the new office a lot smoother. At the time, all of their email and data services were online so these could also be set up prior to the move. It just made for one less thing for them to worry about when dealing with an office relocation.

Installing A Data Server

A couple of months down the line when they had settled in, Murphy Wealth had moved a few of the staff from their original desks. To do this they had to physically unplug the machines they were using and plug them back in at their new desk. This was turning into a bit of a nuisance for them so we suggested it might be a good idea to invest in a new data server. This way we could set it up in a way that any user can log on to any of the PCs and work, without having to shift computers all the time. Remote users could also still access all their data when working outside of the office. This enabled them to also ditch the over expensive cloud costs for storing their data.

VoIP

The most recent addition to their set up is a new VoIP phone system. Migrating to a new phone provider can be a stressful experience but if you have everything lined up in the correct order then it can go fairly smoothly. Murphy Wealth had to give notice to their current provider, then we send a porting request to transfer their numbers across to the new service.

We are then given a date the transfer can go through – That’s it!

Shifting to this new system has removed the ongoing “rental” costs that were associated with their old system. All hardware costs associated with the new system are paid for and any further costs are only required if their staff numbers increase.

This new phone system is truly their own and they can do whatever they want with it!

In Summary

The last year certainly has been a busy one for Murphy Wealth and they have made some drastic changes to how they use their IT system. Their office is fully set up with how they want it, and there is scope for any potential office refurb along the line which is down to how we planned the layout of the network. Staff can work from any desk they wish which helps with any possible team changes or eliminates any downtime if their original PC is needing repaired. They also now have a phone system they have full control over, right down to the ringtone they want! The phone system certainly has been a useful addition during the current lockdown as calls can be diverted to a soft phone solution that can be operated from laptops when working from home.
